Nick Strongman & Scott Hearne | Sensum | Australia

Over the past five+ years, government-led initiatives have driven transformative change across housing, education, and health - responding to regional development pressures and unlocking industry adoption.

We’ll explore key programmes from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and the health sector, highlighting procurement reform, standardisation, and regional supply chain development. These case studies offer valuable insights into how strong government leadership can catalyse innovation.

“Kicking the Sparrows Out of the Shed” — Keeping Modular Momentum Alive in NZ
In 2012, Jimmy Corric helped deliver the largest modular building in the southern hemisphere - 468 prefabricated pods stacked 16 storeys high for the Elam Hall student accommodation block. Since then, he’s spent over a decade trying to answer one question: why does the factory always fall silent after the last module rolls out?

Drawing on lessons from DFMA projects across New Zealand, Jimmy explores how the industry can stop treating modular as a one-off experiment and start building momentum - through pipelines, the right teams, and smarter programmes. Expect a candid, practical, and slightly cheeky session that looks at what really makes modular work in NZ - and how to keep the sparrows out of the shed.
